Sebastian Seemiller

Sebastian Seemiller (also: Andreas Seemiller ; born October 17, 1752 in Velden (Vils) ; † April 22, 1798 in Forstenried ) was a German Catholic theologian. He published treatises on biblical- exegetical topics.

Life

Seemiller was the son of a fisherman. His baptismal name was Andreas. He attended the Jesuit school in Landshut and finished his high school studies at the Jesuit high school in Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ). He then entered the monastery of the Augustinian Canons in Polling . In 1770 he took the religious vows and took the religious name Sebastian. He then studied philosophy, mathematics, history and theology, first in the monastery, then at the University of Ingolstadt . 1776 he became the doctor of philosophy and theology doctorate .

He then returned to his monastery and was ordained a priest that same year . Released from other services, he was able to devote himself to language studies. In 1778 he was a teacher of theology and oriental languages ​​in the monastery. In 1780 he became a pastor in Peißenberg . In 1781 he became professor of oriental languages ​​and theology at the University of Ingolstadt and senior librarian of the university library with the title of Kurpfälzischer Rat .

He also participated in the management and organization of the Ingolstadt University. He was dean of the theological faculty three times and rector of the university in 1791 . In May 1797 he became a country pastor in what is now Munich's Forstenried district. There he was particularly committed to improving the school system and agriculture. He also dealt with exegesis and literary history. He died just a year later at the age of 45.
