Sebastian Wenz

Sebastian Wenz (born July 2, 1890 in Limburg an der Lahn , † March 21, 1915 in Nevers ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Sebastian Wenz, son of the City Secretary Johann Wenz and his wife Margarethe née Bibo, attended the grammar school in Limburg from 1899 to 1908 . At the suggestion of his teacher Martin Jöris, he studied archeology, classical philology and ancient history in Freiburg , Berlin and Münster . In the vita of his dissertation , Wenz names Reinhard Kekulé von Stradonitz , Wilhelm Kroll , Otto Seeck and Friedrich Koepp as “influential teachers” . It was also Koepp who encouraged Wenz to study Attic warrior graves for his dissertation . With this work Wenz received his doctorate in Münster in 1913 . He then worked as an unskilled worker at the Provincial Museum in Trier .

From the beginning of the First World War , Wenz was a soldier. He served on the French front and was wounded there on September 7, 1914 at Vitry-le-François . He died on March 21, 1915 in Nevers Hospital .
