Sedmihorky , until 1966 Nová Ves (German Wartenberg ) is a former spa town in the Bohemian Paradise not far from Turnov . Administratively it is a district of Karlovice in Okres Semily .

history

Main building and guest house

Several mineral healing springs were discovered in the Sedmihorky area at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1841 the physician Dr. Antonín Šlechta has a spa called “Sedmihorky Cold Water Spa near Hrubá Skála”. In addition to the centrally located Aloisien spring, there were ten other healing springs that were artfully framed and embedded in a park landscape. The healing method included cold water cures and open-air baths. It was soon recognized in specialist circles and recommended by doctors.

The initially small business for seven guests, housed in the former inn and forester's house of the nearby Hrubá Skála family , grew into a health resort with six brick and five wooden buildings. At peak times, up to 400 visitors came to Sedmihorky each year, mainly from Prague and Vienna, but also from the rest of Europe and overseas. Prominent guests were the writers Jan Neruda , Eliška Krásnohorská and the creator of the name Bohemian Paradise , Karel Havlíček Borovský , who said in 1842: “These rocks, this is truly a paradise!” . After the spa business came to an end, the Hotel Lázně Sedmihorky moved into three spa houses. There is a campsite not far from the village.

In 1991 the place had 162 inhabitants. In 2001 the village consisted of 49 houses in which 143 people lived.

On October 4, 2003, a bus accident occurred at the barrier-free level crossing near Sedmihorky station, in which one bus occupant was killed and over 20 were injured, some seriously. The bus came from Pirna in Saxony .
