The Stade seaport (Stade-Bützfleth) is located in the Bützfleth district of the Hanseatic city of Stade on the Lower Elbe . The port is 60  nm away from the North Sea (measured from Elbe 1 ) and can handle ships with a length of up to 270 m and a draft of 14 m . The mean tidal range in the port area is 3.1 m.

The port consists of a north and a south pier, which are used exclusively for the reloading of the local industrial companies, and a north-west quay.

In the seaport of Stade, bauxite is currently being imported for the aluminum oxide plant and chemicals from Dow Chemical are being loaded. Construction materials such as sand, gravel and clay are also handled. The Buss Group also imports 40,000 t of household waste annually from Ireland, which is transported on to the Rothensee waste- to- energy plant .

In 2016, around 5.7 million tonnes of goods were handled in sea freight, of which 3.05 million tonnes of solid bulk cargoes (–4%) and 2.65 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargoes. In the previous years it was: 2015: 5.85 million t; 2014: 5.6 million t; 2013: 5.3 million t; 2012: 5.8 million t; 2011: 5.2 million t; 2010: 5.3 million t; 2009: 4.82 million t. In 2010, 4150 people were directly employed by the Stade seaport.

The first of two expansion stages of the Stade seaport has been completed by the state-owned port operator Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG . In the final stage, extensive container and bulk goods capacities are to be created.

In a second expansion stage, the expansion by a further 24 ha with a quay length of 1,100 m is planned, which is expected to be implemented by 2017. Originally an extension of 40 hectares was planned, but a. had to be reduced due to problems with sound insulation.

The port development company has planned a so-called multipurpose concept with a mix of handling options for bulk goods and special loads through to containers for further expansion.

The Hanseatic City of Stade urgently requires a new track connection for the Stade seaport, which should run along the route of the 5th construction phase of the A 26 and relieve the city center of Stade from industrial rail traffic.
