Neuzell is a district of the town of Beilngries in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt .

location

The village is located on the plateau of the southern Franconian Jura south of the Beilngries municipality. From the state road 2229 ( Paulushofen - Denkendorf ) a road branches off to the west to Neuzell and on to Irfersdorf .

history

To the north-east of Neuzell (so called in contrast to a lost Altenzell) grave finds from the Bronze Age were made.

"Newenczell" was first mentioned in a document in 1305 in the Gaimersheim arbitration award; In the dispute between the Bishop of Eichstätt and Bavaria over the Hirschberg inheritance , the village was awarded to the Eichstätt Monastery. At about the same time, the Eichstätter Ministeriale Heinrich Tageo von Obereichstätt had five Neuzeller Huben in fief , including the bailiwick and the court. At the same time or later, Ministeriale Albert von Wieshofen received taxes from 14 Huben in Neu- and Altenzell. Another fiefdom was held by the Emmendorfer family, followed by the Absbergers of Rumburg . In 1384 it was named as the fiefdom of Heinrich Heginger, in the 15th century Leonhard Absberger was the fiefdom holder, and in 1555 the heirs of Erasmus von Absberg held the fiefdom, which then returned to the bishopric . In 1398 the Eichstatt Bishop Friedrich IV bought goods in Neuzell. In 1489 Wolf von Parsberg sold his property in Neuzell to Hans Dürner zu Ottmaring . In 1584, with the transfer of Tögingen rule to him , the bishop of Eichstätt acquired seven properties and two courtyards from Neuzell. Regarding village and community rulership, they were still subject to the Töging judicial office of the lower bishopric and, with regard to the high court, to the upper office of Beilngries- Hirschberg . The Plankstetten monastery also had considerable property .

In the course of secularization in 1802 the lower bishopric and in it Neuzell came to the Grand Duke Archduke Ferdinand III. from Tuscany and in 1806 to the Bavarian district court Kipfenberg . 1808 formed Neuzell with then 149 residents along with the villages Paulushofen and cowshed a tax district in Altmühl District : This district belonged from 1810 to the Upper Danube district with the capital Eichstätt and in 1817 the District Court of Beilngries in regenkreis with capital Regensburg. In 1818 the tax district became a political municipality. From 1838 the district of Beilngries and with it the community of Paulushofen was part of the district of Middle Franconia with the capital Ansbach .

With the Bavarian territorial reform , the community Paulushofen joined the town of Beilngries together with Neuzell on January 1, 1972.

In 1983 there were 16 farms in the village with its 85 inhabitants, most of which were run as a sideline.

Neuzeller fountain

About three kilometers from Neuzell is the Neuzeller Brunnen in the Altmühltal; In the Middle Ages, the Neuzell farmers had the right to draw water here.

Catholic village chapel

The village has belonged to the catholic parish Irfersdorf, which has been cared for by the parish of Gelbelsee since 2002 . In 1749 there is talk of the erection of a statue of Mary and in 1794 of a baroque chapel with a roof turret and dome. She is the St. Martin and contains an altar from the end of the 18th century and figures of saints.
