Biberbach

Biberbach is a district of the town of Beilngries in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt .

location

The place is west of the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and the B 299, north of Beilngries and south of Plankstetten in the southern Franconian Jura in the Altmühltal Nature Park .

history

Burial mounds from the Bronze Age were found in the corridor at the Kühknock .

"Piberbach" (= village on the brook with beavers) was first mentioned in a document in 1080 on the occasion of the awarding of the wild bans by Emperor Heinrich IV. To Eichstätt Bishop Udalrich. Presumably the place belonged to the Reichsgut Greding, which last held the Counts of Hirschberg . After the Hirschberg counts with Count Gebhard VII died out in 1305, Biberbach seems to have come to the Wolfsteiner zu Sulzbürg as an imperial fiefdom, although it is noted in the oldest Eichstätter fief book that Biberbach was an episcopal fiefdom. In Biberbach, the Benedictine monastery Kühbach had had since the first half of the 11th century , after a Countess Hildegard had given goods to the monastery there; In 1493 the monastery sold this property, which included the Meierhof as well as the smaller “Salzhube” property and parcels, to the Eichstatt Bishop Wilhelm von Reichenau . In 1529 the bishop provided these two farms, which had not been hereditary until then, with a letter of inheritance. In 1644 the Salzhube owned the meal justice. Third landlord after the Wolfsteiners and the bishop was the nearby Plankstetten monastery . Since the establishment of the parish of Plankstetten, Biberbach was a branch of this parish.

In the course of secularization , the lower bishopric, to which Biberbach belonged, came to Grand Duke Archduke Ferdinand III in 1802 . from Tuscany and at the turn of the year 1805/06 to the Kingdom of Bavaria and there to the district court of Beilngries. From 1808 the district court of Beilngries and thus Biberbach was a municipality of the Altmühlkreis and from 1810 the Upper Danube region . From 1817 to 1833 Biberbach was Leuchtenberg , then Bavarian again. From 1838 the district court Beilngries (from 1862 district office Beilngries) and with it Biberbach part of the district of Middle Franconia with the capital Ansbach. In 1880 Biberbach came with the district office of Beilngries to the administrative districts of Upper Palatinate and Regensburg.

In 1933 Biberbach had 133 inhabitants. In 1973 there were 216 and 1983 227 inhabitants who were active in agriculture in five full-time and 22 part-time businesses.

On July 1, 1972, the place moved from the dissolved Upper Palatinate district of Beilngries to the expanded district of Eichstätt, which was incorporated from Middle Franconia to Upper Bavaria. With the Bavarian regional reform , Biberbach was incorporated into Beilngries on May 1, 1978.

A village community center with an integrated fire station was built in a central location at the playground in 2010 .

Town center with St. Michael

The Catholic Church of St. Michael is a fortified church from the late Gothic period and was changed in the 18th century.

economy

There are several local accommodation businesses in Biberbach, all of which are run as family businesses. As the center of the Biberbacher economic life, however, the Gasthaus Wolf is to be seen (economy at Franz), where there is food. Its beer garden is called the smallest in the world by the locals, but is a focal point due to its central location in the town center (Biberbacher Stachus). The economic life is supplemented by several fish farms, which find ideal location factors in Biberbach due to the sufficient available water resource. There is also a car restoration company.
