The 3 genera and 8 species of sea ​​ravens (Hemitripterinae) live in the north-western Atlantic and in the North Pacific, mostly on the ground, also at greater depths of 200 to 400 meters. They feed on small invertebrates.

features

The head and body of the sea ravens are covered with skin protrusions and spines. Sea ravens have two dorsal fins, the first with 6-19 hard rays, the second with 11-30 soft rays. The pelvic fins have one hard and three soft rays. They have a full sideline with more than 35 open pores. There is no swim bladder . In the case of the genus Hemitripterus , the color of the same species is often different depending on the habitat. Sea crows grow up to a maximum of 70 centimeters.
