Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (शिवसागर रामगुलाम) (born September 18, 1900 in Belle Rive , Mauritius ; †  December 15, 1985 in Port Louis ) was first Prime Minister from September 26, 1961 to June 16, 1982 and from December 28, 1983 to his Death on December 15, 1985 Governor General of Mauritius. Under him, the country gained independence on March 12, 1968 after 150 years of British rule. He is therefore regarded as Mauritius' "father of independence".

In 1973 he received the United Nations Human Rights Prize . The Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses and the international airport of Mauritius (colloquially Plaisance , IATA code MRU) are named after him.

His son Navin Ramgoolam was Prime Minister from 2005 to 2014.
