The Segelfluggelände Dorsten canal is located in the district of Recklinghausen centrally within the city Dorsten . In the north, the site borders on the Wesel-Datteln Canal , separated by a railway embankment, and the Dorsten lock is in the immediate vicinity . The airfield has a grass runway, which is divided into a glider flight path and a motor flight path.

history

Today's airfield area was forested until 1958 and was prepared for operation as a glider airfield by members of the Dorsten air sports club from 1958 to 1960. Previously, flight operations took place at Borkenberge airfield, among other places .

Flight operations

The approval of the airfield only permits the operation of gliders , motor gliders , air sports equipment and helicopters . Take-offs and landings of powered aircraft are only permitted for the purpose of aircraft towing .

Regular flight operations take place from April to October on weekends and public holidays. The airfield is operated using the PPR procedure . During the winter months, glider operations are suspended .

particularities

In addition to the Dorsten air sports club, the Velbert air sports club and the Essen Steeler Spatzen glider club also use the airfield for their flying activities. Every two years the LSV Dorsten organizes an air show , which is advertised under the name "Flugtage Dorsten". In 2018, part of the airfield served as the location for the Hinter'm Kornfeld rechts music festival for the first time .
