The Stolberg-Diepenlinchen glider airfield is a glider airfield near Stolberg (Rhineland) in the Aachen city region . The area is operated by the Luftsportverein Stolberg e. V. and is located around 1 km east of the Diepenlinchen district of Mausbach .

history

The Luftsportverein Stolberg e. V. was founded in 1953. Four years later began this, the Segelfluggelände Stolberg-Diepenlinchen in personal contribution prepare. Flight operations began two years after work began in 1959 . Since then, the runway has been extended in several steps to 1,000 meters. In addition, a hangar , a workshop and a clubhouse were built .

Flight operations

If the flying weather allows it, the glider airfield is used on weekends and public holidays from Easter to the beginning of November. Most flights are on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The cable winch makes the glider flight area an ideal place for glider training. Experienced glider pilots not only fly from here into the airspace over Aachen , but are also immediately after take-off on the springboard into the Eifel , which offers good thermal updraft opportunities due to its hilly landscape . A good thermal is the prerequisite for long cross-country flights up to the Moselle and often beyond.

Accidents
