The sailing club "Weser" ( SVW ) is a German sailing club in Bremen - Eastern suburb , yacht harbor on the Peterswerder near the Weser Stadium .

history

The sailing club Weser was founded on January 8, 1884 by 28 members. It is the oldest sailing club in Bremen and one of the oldest in Germany. A plot of land on the Weser allocated by the city became the harbor and berth for the dinghies . The boathouse , which was initially still floating , was replaced by a permanent clubhouse at the harbor in 1913. At this time, numerous regattas were already being sailed in front of the club's grounds, as well as on the Upper and Lower Weser.

The first boathouse

After the First World War , regattas were held again from 1919 and club life was revived. In the course of democratization and women's suffrage, the statutes were changed and women were given the opportunity to become active members. In the same year the first youth department was founded, although still without boats, but with enough young people who were instructed in the theory and practice of regatta sport.

Until the beginning of the Second World War , the number of members increased steadily.

The youth department received three new dinghies, with which they took part in the preliminary decisions for the Olympic selection. In the war that followed, sailing gradually came to a standstill, as many members were called upon to serve as weapons and later the air war severely damaged the port and the area. During the occupation, the boathouse became a command center, first for the British and later for the Americans. The Stadium Boat Club was founded and the SVW's holdings were confiscated by the occupying powers. The wooden sheet pile wall destroyed by bombs was replaced by a new steel sheet pile wall by the Americans.

In 1947 the association began again to call members together. The dinghies sunk in the harbor were recovered and the system was repaired. In September of the same year the official reopening was celebrated.

In 2010 the patent3 crew , an X-332 headed by helmsman Jens Tschentscher and owner Jürgen Klinghardt, won the world championship for sea sailing; In 2012 they became vice world champions.
