Segodounon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Segodounon ( Greek  Σεγόδουνον ; Latin Segodunum ) was an ancient settlement in the area of Germania magna . The place is listed in the Atlas Geographike Hyphegesis by Claudius Ptolemy . It was probably the capital of the civitas Alisinensium . The Celtic place name means "Siegburg".

Localization

According to the results of a research group at the Institute for Geodesy and Geographic Information Technology at the TU Berlin , this is probably the Wimpfen fort in the valley . Theodor Steche had localizations near Wimpfen at the Roman fort Heilbronn-Böckingen and the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt fort . However, all three named places belonged to the Roman Empire from around 90 to 259/260 AD and were therefore outside of Germania Magna.
