The Mainz section of the German Alpine Club e. V. ( DAV section Mainz for short ) is a section of the German Alpine Club based in Mainz . The Mainz section was founded on March 19, 1883, making it one of the older and, with 7638 members (as of December 31, 2019), one of the larger sections of the German Alpine Club , and after the 1. FSV Mainz 05, the largest club in Mainz.

history

On December 7th, 1882, it was decided to found a section in Mainz, which was then founded on March 19th, 1883 as "Section Mainz of the German and Austrian Alpine Club", it is considered one of the founding members of the German Alpine Club.

The section takes care of the Mainzer Höhenweg in the Ötztal Alps with the Rhineland-Palatinate bivouac at 3247  m above sea level. A. , the Kaunergrathütte in the Pitztal Alps at 2817  m above sea level. A. , and the Franz-Auer-Steig .

The small Mainzer Höhenweg was laid out as a hiking trail around the city of Mainz . The DAV climbing center Kletterkiste is located in the Mombach district of the hometown . In Trechtingshausen in Morgenbachtal is the native climbing area .
