The Rhineland-Palatinate Bivouac is a bivouac box belonging to the Mainz section of the German Alpine Club on the 3,252 meter high Wassertalkogel in the Geigenkamm of the Ötztal Alps . It is located a little below and to the west of the summit at a height of 3247 meters and offers space for nine people, with two additional emergency camps. It serves as an emergency shelter when walking the Mainzer Höhenweg .
The bivouac box was erected in 1973.
Approaches
- From the Rüsselsheimer Hütte , east above Plangeross over the Weißmaurachjoch south in a walking time of about 5½ hours to the bivouac
- From the Braunschweiger Hütte to the south via the Mainzer Höhenweg via the Pitztaler Jöchl or via the Franz-Auer-Steig in just under 5 hours
- From the car park at Rettenbachferner via the Mainzer Höhenweg in 4½ hours
The bivouac can also be reached on ski tours from the Rettenbachferner over the Pollesjoch to the Pollestal and from the Wassertalkogel or the Puitkogel .
