The Rüsselsheimer Hütte is an Alpine Club hut of the Rüsselsheim section of the German Alpine Club . It is located in the Ötztal Alps in the Geigenkamm on the Weißmaurachalpe above the town of Plangeross in the municipality of St. Leonhard in the Pitztal at an altitude of 2,323 m.

history

In 1926 the hut was built as the Neue Chemnitzer Hütte by the Chemnitz Section after the Chemnitzer Hütte, built in South Tyrol in 1895, was expropriated by the Italian state after the First World War . The construction of the new hut took two years. In 1945 the hut was confiscated as Reich German territory . In 1955 the hut was placed in trust by the DAV. Between 1956 and 1968 the hut was renewed and renovated by members of the Chemnitz section. In 1973 the Chemnitz Section dissolved and the trusteeship passed into the hands of the Rüsselsheim Section . The Neue Chemnitzer Hütte was expanded between 1978 and 1981 and between September 2015 and June 2016. In the avalanche winter of 1999 , the hut was badly damaged by an avalanche, but was able to be put back into operation a year later. In 2001 the hut celebrated its 75th anniversary. On this occasion, the hut was renamed the Rüsselsheimer Hütte .
