Selim Muça

Haxhi Selim Muça (* before 1937; † September 18, 2016 in Tirana ) was an Albanian surveyor and scientist. As chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania, he was the Grand Mufti of Albania until March 2014.

Life

Selim Muça came from an Albanian family with a far-reaching Muslim tradition. His father was an imam . Muça worked in Bulqiza from 1964 to 1991 as a geodesic engineer, topographer and cartographer.

Albania was declared a totalitarian atheist state under the dictator Enver Hoxha in 1967. With the beginning of the democratization process in the country in the early 1990s, Selim Muça devoted himself to the service of Islam . From 1992 to 1994 he was Superintendent of Education for the Muslim Community. In 1994 he was the Mufti of Elbasan for four months , then he was transferred to the Muftiate of Lezha and Vlora , where he stayed until 1995. From 1995 to March 2004 he was HR manager of the Muslim Community of Albania and before the death of the previous head Hafiz Sabri Koçi , Selim Muça became chairman of the community on March 6, 2004.

His successor as head of the Muslim community is Skënder Bruçaj , who took over the office in 2014.

He died in September 2016 at his home in Tirana at the age of 80.
