Military career

Vietinghoff was initially in Danish service as a Junker in the body regiment from 1726 . In 1729 he joined the Prussian service as a private corporal and was employed in the “Anhalt-Zerbst” infantry regiment . With this regiment he took part as a second lieutenant during the First Silesian War in the assault on Glogau , the siege of Brieg and the battles of Mollwitz and Chotusitz . Promoted to Premier Lieutenant at the end of June 1743 , he took part in the siege of Prague in the Second Silesian War and fought at Hohenfriedberg , Soor and Kesselsdorf . By mid-October 1752, Vietinghoff rose to captain and company commander .

In the 1756/63 campaign he was near Prague and Breslau , and was wounded near Leuthen and Hochkirch . Promoted to major in January 1759 , he successfully commanded a battalion of volunteers the following year and fought in the Battle of Reichenbach . In 1765 he rose to lieutenant colonel and on May 21, 1770 to colonel . Since Vietinghoff was no longer able to be used in the field due to his numerous injuries, the king transferred the garrison regiment of Colonel Ernst Friedrich von der Heyden in Kolberg to him in June 1772 . He was also awarded the Order of Pour le Mérite on October 16, 1786 and promoted to major general on February 4, 1787. After his battalion had been disbanded on May 1, 1788, Vietinghoff received an annual pension of 700 thalers plus 500 thalers as head of the personal company of his old battalion. He was also allowed to stay in Potsdam and wear the army uniform.

family

Vietinghoff was married to Charlotte Elisabeth von Amstel (* 1734; † April 12, 1802 in Bellevue near Köpenick). She was the daughter of Georg Friedrich von Amstel . The marriage resulted in the son Karl Wilhelm Friedrich (born January 24, 1767 in Stettin), who was promoted to staff captain in the Prussian army and later served in Austria.
