Georg Friedrich of Amstel
Georg Friedrich von Amstel (born January 10, 1690 ; † May 6, 1757 in the Battle of Prague ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the fortress Stettin and governor of Grüningen .
Life
origin
His parents were Colonel Heinrich von Amstel and his wife, née von Königseck.
Military career
In 1707 he became a non-commissioned officer in the "Dönhoff" regiment, where his father also served, in 1709 ensign and on October 1, 1711, second lieutenant . During the Pomeranian Campaign in 1715 he belonged to the Prussian troops in the siege of Stralsund and the capture of the island of Rügen . After the war he was a recruiter for the Prussian army for three years . On September 3, 1718 he was promoted to prime lieutenant, on August 12, 1723 he was staff captain and in 1728 he was given his own company.
In 1734 he took part in the Rhine campaign. After the peace treaty of 1737 he was promoted to major . He served in General Röder's regiment and was transferred to Silesia in 1740. On May 1, 1741 he became lieutenant colonel and was able to prove himself on May 17, 1742 in the battle of Chotusitz . In the Second Silesian War he fought in Bohemia, was present at the siege of Prague in 1745 and fought on June 4, 1745 in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg . On June 20 he became a colonel in the "Schlichting" regiment and fought with him in the battle of Thrush and the battle of Hennersdorf . For his bravery in thrush, he received the order Pour le Mérite .
On September 14, 1753 he was promoted to major general and commanded the Kaunitz regiment for some time. On July 1, 1754, he took over his own regiment, Infantry Regiment No. 8. On July 7, 1754, he succeeded General Hans Otto von Treskow as the commander of the fortress of Stettin . In 1756 he and his regiment were transferred to Saxony. On May 6, 1757, he was fighting in the Battle of Prague when he was fatally wounded by a grape ball.
family
Amstel was married to Elisabeth Eleonara von der Gröben from 1723. The couple had seven children, three of whom died young. The rest were:
- Georg Heinrich (* 1725; † August 30, 1757 in the battle of Groß-Jägersdorf ), Prussian lieutenant in the "Caniz" regiment
- Otto Friedrich (* 1728; † May 6, 1768), with him the family of Amstel died out, ∞ Marie Eleonore von Stollhofen, daughter of Martin Friedrich von Stollhofen
- Charlotte Elisabeth († April 12, 1802) ∞ Detlef von Vietinghoff , Prussian major general
- a daughter married to a major von Lehwald
