The Seltenrein is a left tributary of the Löbauer water in Saxony .

course

It rises at the eastern foot of the Bubenik and flows through a shallow valley to the east. It got its name because of the turbidity of the water caused by the removal of the loess clay soil in its upper course.

The villages of Oelsa and Altlöbau, both of which belong to the town of Löbau , extend along the stream . The Löbau bypass of the federal highway 178 , which was inaugurated on November 5, 2001 and which begins east of the Lärchenberg and leads in the valley of the buttermilk water near Nechen to the federal highway 6 leads between the two places over the Seltenrein .

The Seltenrein forms a deep valley south of the city center of Löbau. In the years 1926 to 1927, a stone arch bridge was built across the valley for Reichsstraße 178 to Zittau , which was inaugurated as the Hindenburg Bridge in 1927 and blown up on May 8, 1945. After its reconstruction between 1950 and 1951, the Seltenrein Bridge was named the Bridge of Youth . Until the opening of the Löbau bypass, the federal road 178 led over the bridge, which was renovated in 2002. Below the bridge is the Holy Spirit Church, built in 1458, in the valley.

In the Löbauer district Tiefendorf the Seltenrein flows into the Löbauer water. It has a length of 4.5 km and overcomes a difference in altitude of 63 m.
