Serdar Sabuncu (born October 22, 1977 in Izmir ) is a Turkish football coach .

Career

First successes as a youth coach

In 2001 Sabuncu, who was never a professional footballer himself, graduated from the Celal Bayar University in Manisa with a degree in sport , after which he began to train the youth of İzmirspor , where he was among other things champion with the B youth. In 2007 he moved to Altay İzmir . Here, too, he was able to prove his talent, because with the B youth he was able to celebrate the championship in the Izmir League again; he also led the team to the national championship title. In the squad at that time there were players like Okay Yokuşlu , Aytaç Kara , Oğulcan Gökçe , Mert Can Dadan and Cenk Demirel , who are now professionals.

As a professional trainer

Sabuncu made his first experiences in the professional business as an assistant trainer at Tire 1922 Spor and at FBM Yaşamspor . In August 2015, he finally signed his first contract as head coach at Altay İzmir and stated the goal of relegation, which could also be achieved with eleventh place. Before the start of the 2016/17 season, Sabuncu announced the goal of promotion. At the end of September 2016, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement because Sabuncu and the board could not agree on the season's goal. At the beginning of October Sabuncu signed a contract with 24 Erzincanspor . His time in Erzincan was average and the contract was terminated in early 2017. He then joined Izmirspor, where he worked as a trainer until the beginning of 2019.

Private

In his youth, Sabuncu worked as a waiter and bartender. According to his own statements, he would have kept the job of waiter if he hadn't become a coach. He is married and has a son, about whom Sabuncu says he does not wish that he would one day become a footballer. He prefers to spend his free time with his family, and he also likes to watch football games privately. His role models include Jürgen Klopp , Ersun Yanal , Hamza Hamzaoğlu and Hikmet Karaman .
