history
Founding of the association and the first years
In 1923 Altınordu Izmir split from Altay Izmir and became an independent association. In 1925 another club split off from Altay SK, the traditional club Göztepe Izmir . Altınordu played between 1959-1965 and 1966-1970 in the 1st Turkish League .
The second division years
Until the summer of 1970 Altınordu could still hold in the highest Turkish league and then rose to the second highest Turkish league, in today's TFF 1st Lig , from. After the club had been a permanent member of the 2nd Lig for eight seasons, relegation failed here in the summer of 1978, so that the club had to relegate to the third-highest Turkish league for the first time in its club's history. Here, the runner-up made it possible to gain direct promotion. In the next season the club rose again to the 2nd Turkish league , where they played until 1992 for a total of 13 years. In the following season Altınordu Izmir rose again, but this time to the Turkish Amateur League, in which they played there from 1996 to 2003.
Relegation to the amateur league and return in summer 2003
Subsequently, the Red Devils ( Turkish Kırmızı Şeytanlar ) rose to the summer of 2003, the club's nickname, in the TFF 3rd Lig . Until 2008, the Red Devils played in the fourth division in Turkish football . In the 2008/09 season Altınordu managed to participate in the TFF 2. Lig, the third highest division of Turkish football, but rose again after one season TFF 3. Lig.
Modern times
At the end of the 2000s, Seyit Mehmet Özkan was elected club president of the traditional club. As club president, he had turned local rivals Bucaspor into a talent factory and led the club all the way to the Süper Lig . After disagreements with the other board members, he gave up his project at Bucaspor and then continued at Altınordu. Özkan was also followed by many talents from the youth of Bucaspor.
After two years in the TFF 3rd Lig, the club reached the summer 2011 participation in the play-offs. Here they prevailed against all opponents and managed to get promoted to the TFF 2nd Lig . In this third-highest division they occupied a safe non-relegation place in the middle of the table for the entire season. It was only through unexpected defeats in recent weeks that they slipped into the relegation zone and ultimately missed relegation. Relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig, the club immediately settled in the upper part of the table and played the entire season for promotion. On matchday 27, the club took over the championship lead from previous leader Darıca Gençlerbirliği and continuously expanded its lead in the following match days. On the 32nd and penultimate day of the match they secured the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig with nine points difference to the runner-up and thus the direct promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig.
In the third division season, the team under the leadership of Hüseyin Eroğlu reached the third division championship two days before the end of the season and thus the march into the TFF 1. Lig . With this rise, the club returned to the second division after 24 years of abstinence.
