Ümit Kayıhan (born February 28, 1954 in Izmir ; † June 6, 2018 there ) was a Turkish football player and coach.

Career

Athletic career

Ümit Kayıhan started his career at Göztepe Izmir . For the yellow-reds he came to 17 games in his first season and scored one goal. For the season 1975/76 Kayıhan moved to the promoted Balıkesirspor . On the last day of the match Balıkesirspor lost 6-1 against Adanaspor and was relegated to the bottom of the table in the second division.

The midfielder left Balıkesirspor after a season and moved to Altay İzmir . In two seasons with Altay Kayıhan completed 37 league games. In the summer of 1978 he went to Eskişehirspor . There he only came to three missions and returned to Altay after a year.

At the end of the 1979/80 season, Ümit Kayıhan celebrated his only success as a player. Altay Galatasaray beat Istanbul in the final of the Turkish Cup . In the first leg in Izmir Altay won 1-0 with a goal from Kayıhan. The second leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

From 1982 to 1985 Kayıhan played for Altınordu Izmir . In the summer of 1985 he moved to Altay for the third time and ended his active career in 1987 with Kuşadasıspor .

Coaching career

Kayıhan began his career as a head coach in October 1988 at Karşıyaka Izmir . He was released after two months. In the 1999/2000 season Kayıhan was able to save MKE Ankaragücü from relegation to the second division with two wins and four draws .

In the 2000/01 season Ümit Kayıhan was the head coach of Göztepe Izmir . He and his team achieved promotion to the Süper Lig . His last engagement was in 2013 in the 3rd division at Altay İzmir.
