Ergun Kantarcı (born November 1, 1946 in Trabzon , † June 3, 2015 in Karabük ) was a Turkish football player and coach.

Player career

Kantarcı's playing career is incompletely documented. So he grew up in his hometown Trabzon and also started playing football here. Here he lived in the same area as the future Turkish national goalkeeper and coach Şenol Güneş . After his first stations as a player remained unknown, he played in the season 1968/69 for the first division club Vefa Istanbul . After the next four seasons of his career remained unknown, he played in the 1973/74 for the second division club İstanbulspor . In addition to these two stations, it is also known that he played for DÇ Karabükspor .

Coaching career

The first few years of Kantarcı's coaching career are largely undocumented. It is known that he was assistant coach at Trabzonspor , the club in his hometown Trabzon, in the 1980/81 season . This season he also appeared as head coach on an interim basis, as the actual head coach Özkan Sümer was unable to look after the team partly because of his work for the Turkish national team and partly for reasons that were not discussed in more detail.

From the end of the 1984/85 season he began to look after the second division club DÇ Karabükspor as head coach. Already in the first half of the 1985/86 season he left this club again.

For the 1986/87 season he started the third division İstanbulspor , for whom he had also worked as a player, al head coach.

After just one season, Kantarcı began to look after Kardemir Karabükspor for the second time .

From the early 1990s, Kantarcı trained a variety of fourth, third and second division teams. He mainly worked for clubs in the Turkish Aegean region .

death

Kantarcı suffered a heart attack in his apartment in Karabük on June 3, 2015 and died the same day in a nearby hospital as a result of this heart attack . Two days later, after a midday prayer, he was buried in the Şirinevler Mosque in the Öğlebelli Mezarlığı cemetery.
