Sergiu Nicolaescu (born April 13, 1930 in Târgu Jiu ; † January 3, 2013 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian actor , film director and politician .

Life

At the age of five Nicolaescu left the city of his birth with his parents; the family moved to Timisoara . He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest with a degree as an engineer and then worked in the field of documentary film and current reporting for the Studioul Cinematografic Alexandru Sahia .

Nicolaescu has made a number of dramas , adventure films and historical material as well as crime films . The best known are the two strips Dacii (1966) and Mihai Viteazul (1970). He was nominated three times for the "Golden Prize" at the Moscow Film Festival : 1970 for Mihai Viteazul , 1976 for Osânda and 1985 for Ringul . His career as a director, which began in 1962, includes over 50 films.

After the revolution of 1989, in which Nicolaescu participated and during which he was accepted into the Council of the Front for National Salvation , he supported the Frontul Salvării Naționale party and was elected several times as their representative in various bodies. He later joined the Partidul Social Democrat (PSD). On his initiative, a committee of inquiry into the events of December 1989 was set up, which he initially headed. In 2004 Nicolaescu was appointed to the National Council of the Institutului Revoluției Române by Ion Iliescu . In 2011 he left the PSD. After he had an operation for peritonitis on December 28, 2012 , he had heart and lung problems a few days later. Nicolaescu died on January 3, 2013 in Bucharest's Elias Hospital.

In 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994 Sergiu Nicolaescu directed the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg .
