Serge Schoonbroodt (born April 19, 1971 in Eupen ) is a Belgian organist and singer.

Life

Serge Schoonbroodt studied organ with his father Hubert Schoonbroodt at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and in 1993 received first prize in the subject organ. From 1993 to 1996 he was a singer at the Cathedral of Paris. He has been an international organist since 1996 and regularly gives master classes. His interpretations were broadcast on the radio stations WDR , SWF , France Musique , BRR and Radio Classic Tallinn. Concerts and his now 20 CD recordings have been praised and awarded by the international trade press.

Schoonbroodt is the founder of the Center for Early Music in Liège. He is also the founder and musical director of the Festival Internacional de Musica de Arequipa in southern Peru. Today he lives in Liège, where he works on promoting historical organs and directs the “Fête de l'Orgue” festival.

January 2019 Schoonbroodt told the press that he wanted to end his public career as a musician after 20 years. He also announced that he had resigned from the church “out of deep disagreement with the institution of the Catholic Church”.
