Sergei Wassiljewitsch Awdejew ( Russian Сергей Васильевич Авдеев ; born January 1, 1956 , Tschapajewsk , Kuibyshev Oblast , then Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian cosmonaut .
education
Avdejew graduated from the Moscow Physics Engineering Institute in 1979 as a physics engineer. From 1979 to 1987 he worked as an engineer for NPO Energija . He was selected on March 26, 1987 as a cosmonaut for the Energija Engineer Group 9 and received his basic training from December 1987 to July 1989. On February 14, 2003, he retired from active career.
Space flights
As of 1999, Sergei Avdejew held the record for the longest total time spent in space with 747.59 days. He reached this amount with three stays on the Russian Mir space station . It circled the earth 11,968 times, covering a distance of approximately 515 million kilometers. This record was only broken by Sergei Krikalev in August 2005 , in February 2011 Avdejew was also surpassed by Alexander Jurjewitsch Kaleri , in April 2015 by Gennady Padalka and in April 2016 by Yuri Malenchenko , so that at that time he was in fifth place among the space travelers most of the space experience advanced.
Private
Interestingly, Avdeev's birthday always coincided with his three space flights. He is the spaceman who was able to celebrate most of the birthdays in space. Avdejew is married and has two children. His hobbies are nuclear physics , sports and games. He is also an amateur radio operator and has the RV3DW amateur radio call sign.
