Sergei Michailowitsch Krjanin ( Russian Сергей Михайлович Крянин ; born February 9, 1971 in Votkinsk ) is a former Russian cross-country skier .
Career
Krjanin, who had already won the silver medal with the Russian Steffel at the Junior World Championships in Reit im Winkl in 1991 , made his world cup debut as part of the cross-country skiing world cup on December 14, 1994 on the Tauplitzalm. As 53rd, however, he clearly missed a front placement. At the beginning of the following season 1995/96 he reached in Gällivare as 23rd for the first time the World Cup points. He also achieved a good 19th place at the Continental Cup in Krasnogorsk in January, making it into the top 20 for the first time in an international race.
After Krjanin only played one World Cup in the 1996/97 season and remained 65th without winning points, he only returned to the senior national team a year later. He reached the top 20 in Kavgolovo as 13th for the first time in the World Cup. At the following Olympic Winter Games in 1998 in Nagano , Krjanin finished 42nd place over 10 km in classic style. In the pursuit over 25 km, he finished 25th. The World Cup season he finished a little later in 58th place in the overall ranking and 38th in the distance World Cup ranking.
In the 1998/99 season Krjanin started successfully with an eighth place in the Finnish Muonio . However, it remained his only top 10 result of this World Cup season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau am Dachstein in 1999 , he finished in tenth place over 30 km in free style. A little later he finished his most successful World Cup season in 41st place overall.
In January 2001 he won his first and only national title over 50 km at the Russian Championships in Krasnogorsk. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , he won the bronze medal behind Johann Mühlegg and René Sommerfeldt after finishing 44th in the sprint over the 50 km in free style . One week after the world championship, he was tenth in Kavgolovo again under the top 10. With 56th place in the overall ranking of the season, he last achieved a double-digit result.
At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he finished eighth in the mass start race over 30 km. Over 50 km he reached rank 24. After the games, he could not achieve any top placements in the World Cup. Even at his starts in the Continental Cup and at the Russian Championships he was no longer able to convince, so that in 2006 he finally ended his active cross-country skiing career.
He has been married to Anna Krjanina since 1996 and lives with her in Khanty-Mansiysk .
