Sergio Silvano Maciel (born December 7, 1965 in Gregorio de Laferrere , † August 4, 2008 ) was an Argentine football player .

Career

Sergio Maciel began his career with General Lamadrid. He moved from his Argentine home from Deportivo Armenio , where he was promoted to the Primera División , to the German Bundesliga club FC Homburg for the 1989/90 season . Maciel was the first Argentinian Bundesliga regular in Bundesliga history. At Homburg he played together with his compatriot Rodolfo Cardoso . At the end of the season Maciel was the second best goalscorer, behind Lothar Dittmer , but the seven goals scored in 30 games could not prevent the relegation of Homburg. Maciel played one year for Homburg in the 2nd Bundesliga , moved to Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin where he played another year in League 2, and then played for Homburg for three more years. He then moved back to his homeland and played for Estudiantes de La Plata , CA San Lorenzo de Almagro and Gimnasia y Tiro de Salta , as well as in Spain for CD Toledo . Maciel, who last worked as a player advisor in cooperation with Hugo Issa , died at the age of 43 of a heart attack.
