Sergio Sánchez Ortega (born April 3, 1986 in Mataró ) is a Spanish football player . He prefers to play in central defense , but can also act on the flank .

Career

Sergio Sánchez began his career with his home club CE Mataró , at the age of 13 he finally moved to Espanyol Barcelona , where he made his debut in the Primera División on April 24, 2005 against Real Saragossa . In January 2007, Real Madrid's second team Castilla signed the defender on loan until the end of the season, in July Sergio Sánchez moved to Racing Santander again on loan for another year . After he returned to Espanyol in the 2008/09 season and became a regular on the right side, Sevilla FC signed him for four million euros in July 2009 .

On January 1, 2010, the player was diagnosed with a heart problem. Thereupon he stopped all sporting activity for the time being on medical advice. Further medical examinations should be conducted to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.

National team

Sergio Sánchez reached the final with Spain at the U-17 World Cup and the European Championship in 2003 , where they lost to Brazil and Portugal . He is currently an integral part of the Spanish U-21s and took part in the 2009 European Championships in Sweden.
