Serotonin is the name of a Berlin author and radio play producer duo and consists of Marie-Luise Goerke and Matthias Pusch. The duo was founded in Berlin in 2002 .

The authors and radio playmakers

Marie-Luise Goerke is a Japanologist and Germanist and studied at the Free University of Berlin and at Kyoto University in Japan. She works for public broadcasters and for audio book publishers as an author and (radio play) director. Together with Matthias Pusch she has been designing and realizing acoustic art under the name Serotonin since 2002.

Matthias Pusch is a qualified robotics engineer and studied at the Technical University of Berlin and Tokyo University in Japan. He has been working as a director , producer and musician together with Marie-Luise Goerke since 2002 under the name Serotonin.

Origin and production method

Goerke and Pusch have been performing under the name Serotonin since 2002 . Together they write and produce acoustic art, radio features , radio plays, audio books and fiction. In an interview with ARD, they explained that the intention is not to actually separate the individual areas of material development, script, direction, music and production in order to achieve the production method that is characteristic of them. The same name as the happiness hormone serotonin is intended.

Her radio play Failure for Advanced Students (WDR, 2005) deals with the topic of “failure” on several levels. The protagonist Fenner delves into his only talent: failure. He decides to make something out of it and founds an “Academy of Failure”. On further narrative levels, this fictional main storyline is collaged with original sounds and real interviews on the subject of "failure". This montage of fictional and non-fictional material is characteristic of serotonin audio works. The radio play was awarded the 2nd prize at the Prix Hörverlag 2006.

Serotonin often mix the fictional with the factual in their artistic work, which they called the “texture of reality” in a radio conversation at the Bauhaus University Weimar, and create different types of audio pieces in their own studio from their own or other people's texts.

Serotonin has been producing artistic audio guides since 2010 and, since 2016, self-made “acoustic dioramas” for galleries and museums as a form of sound presentation.

In 2015 they published their first historical novel " Das Blausteintuch. A Renaissance Roadmovie" as an eBook and in 2016 as an audio book (unabridged reading by Audible). In their radio feature The Captain Sails to Amazon for the SWR they deal with the production process of their work. In 2018 the second volume " Das Blausteintuch (Volume 2): Die Karte" followed as an eBook and an audio book (unabridged reading at Audible).
