The Serra da Mantiqueira is a mountain range in the southeast of Brazil .

The Serra da Mantiqueira extends over the Brazilian states of São Paulo , Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro . It extends on the northwest side of the Rio Paraíba do Sul river , stretches northeast for around 320 km and reaches an altitude of 2798 meters on the Pedra da Mina . The mountains that go over to the Serra do Espinhaço were originally covered with forest (with the exception of the upper elevation area). These mountain forests have given way to intensive cattle farming.

Various cities are located in the Serra da Mantiqueira, such as Itatiaia , Valinhos and Campos do Jordão , the highest city in Brazil.

The mountain range is crossed by the Tunelão in the municipality of Bom Jardim de Minas .

The Itatiaia National Park is located in the Serra da Mantiqueira . The Trem da Serra da Mantiqueira runs through the Serra da Mantiqueira .
