action

In Tokyo in 1886, three yakuza tried to prevent a far-reaching corruption scandal. The trio unceremoniously struck down an investigative investigator with evidence - in front of his little daughter Kyōko. While dying, the detective reaches for three blood-stained Hanafuda who are connected with the assassins. The cards contain symbols of three animals: wild boar ( ino ), deer ( shika ) and butterfly ( ochō ) - based on the tattooed murderer.

Almost two decades later, the little girl who had to survive as a pickpocket and gambler is a gifted swordsman. The life of the young woman, henceforth she appears under the name Ochō Inoshika , is shaped by the tireless search for the murderers of her father, whom she can only identify by means of the said tattoos.

One day she witnesses how a con artist is murdered on behalf of a shady arcade operator. The dying man asks Ochō to give his sister Yuki , who lives in Asakusa , a savings account to protect her from the threat of prostitution . The avenger agrees and finally goes to Tokyo, where she is staying with her adoptive mother. There she soon meets the person she is looking for, who is unfortunately tied to the sleazy entrepreneur Iwakura. However, this refuses a release; Ochō, however, should play poker for the release of Yuki . The swordsman accepts the bet and wins. Despite Iwakura's pledges to release Yuki immediately, the businessman subsequently raped Yuki. The humiliated victim later confides in her rescuer, so that she finds out for the first time about Iwakura's special back tattoo, which clearly convicts him as a murderer. A little later, Ochō can identify Kurokawa, Iwakura's superior, as another culprit.

In the midst of the turmoil of the political upheaval, Ochō finds himself in a complicated political situation. A government power struggle, influenced by the intervention of British agents and revolutionary groups, is under way. Ochō occasionally meets the rebel Shunosuke on her vengeance campaign, who also wants to murder ex-Yakuza Kurokawa. The resistance fighter is unhappy in love with the British secret agent Christina, who is a good gambler.

Little by little, Ochō achieves the long-awaited revenge. She first poisons the lovebird Iwakura before dedicating it to the seedy Kurokawa and his entourage. However, the politician is warned. He takes Ochō into custody. Ultimately, he reveals to his vengeful prisoners that their mother, who was believed to be missing, his current mate Yaeji, was also involved in the murder plot. Even before Ochō can take revenge on her daring mother in person, Kurokawa strangles his wife. At the end of the film, the heroine frees herself from her bonds. Armed with a katana , she slaughters Kurokawa and his henchmen. At the same time, resistance fighters Shunosuke and Christina are murdered.

  1. In Japan, family names are usually mentioned first, see Japanese name ; For a better understanding, however, the first name Ochō is placed before the family name Inoshika .
