tourism
The Sex Rouge is located in the Glacier 3000 ski area . The summit was first reached in 1964 with a cable car in three sections. The systems were replaced in 1999, since then the Sex Rouge can only be reached from the Col du Pillon via one transfer station. In 2001 a restaurant designed by Mario Botta was opened on the summit . In 2014 the 107 meter long and 80 centimeter wide "Peak Walk" was opened, which connects the mountain station with the summit and is advertised as a "suspension bridge".
Origin of name
“Sex” is a common part of the name of peaks in the region (see Sex (mountain name) ) and is derived from the Latin saxum (rock). However, the cable car company and the tourism authority use the spelling Scex Rouge , as sex could arouse the wrong associations with tourists (especially from the USA).
