biography

He graduated from the University of Tehran with a law degree in 1974 and a degree in literature in 1975. He then emigrated to France to continue his studies in Paris in 1976: religious studies at the “Sorbonne for Antiquity”, legal history at the “Pantheon Faculty” and comparative studies for Islam and Christianity at the “University of Lyon II”. Azmayesh was accepted into the initiate series of the Nematollahi Gonabadi Order, the most famous and original Sufi order in Iran, in Beydukht, a small town in north-east Persia, in 1969. In addition to his academic studies, he followed the "path of substantial development".

Human rights

Ever since the dervishes of the Nematollahi order in whose country of origin Iran were exposed to severe attacks after Ahmadinejad took office, he has campaigned in the West for reporting on these events. He provided in-depth analyzes of the entire political and ideological situation in Iran. He has appeared several times at conferences in Mainz, Hanover, Stuttgart, Aachen, Hamburg, Cologne, Bonn, Berlin, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Paris and London to discuss the background to the ideology of the Islamic Republic in Iran and the persecution of the dervishes and to inform other religious minorities. He spoke e.g. B. together with Heiner Bielefeldt , UN special rapporteur on freedom of religion and belief, at the conference “People, Freedom, Rights - Iran” on December 4, 2010 in Cologne.

After the Supreme religious leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei , in 2010 during his trip to Qom , Sunnis , Baha'is , "New Christians" and Sufis classified as enemies of the regime, founded Azmayesh with the help of European supporters and exiled Iranians, the International Organization for the Protection of Human Rights in Iran. The organization regularly addresses open letters to recognized high clergy in Iran with the request to stand up for the people of Iran and no longer watch in silence as the rights of the citizens are violated. At the same time, Azmayesh presents a middle path in dialogues with individual public figures in conferences, articles and debates with the aim of enabling freedom and self-determination for the people of Iran. He suggests a sustainable improvement of the human rights situation and the living conditions of the population in Iran and the like. a. the separation between religion and politics. He pointed out that outside interference would not be tolerated by the people of Iran. At the same time, he repeatedly points out that the people of the country hope for moral support from various Western states through clear political signals. Azmayesh takes up a suggestion from the people of Iran to let themselves determine the way to the goal in a referendum on the future form of government. He is confident that the Iranian people will vote out the system of the Supreme Legal Scholar ( Velayat-e-faghih ) in favor of a free, democratically oriented state system, as it was in Iran at the beginning of the 20th century in the Mashrutiate movement and in the Constitutional Revolution had clearly begun to develop.

His main field of research is studies of the history and nature of Islam and Christianity. He is also a sought-after speaker at congresses around the world on the subject of Sufism and above all on the mystics Rumi and Shah Nematollah Vali. His hobbies are the healing properties and spiritual effectiveness of certain rhythms. Seals Rumi , Hafiz ', Sa'adis , Shah Nematollah Valis or other Persian mystics and poets reciting in workshops, which are often visited by musicians, doctors and therapists because of its intense effect. He explains the rich imagery of these poems and the background of the spiritual rhythms with simple words and modern terms.

Azmayesh is one of those religious scholars who, as a connoisseur of the Koran, have learned its text by heart ( Hāfiz ). Azmayesh has studied the works of philosophers like Ibn ¡Arab∆ and Suhrawardi in depth and bases his human rights work on the demand for tolerance, which Ibn ¡Arab∆ has already laid down as a central premise for a successful social life.

Azmayesh has been increasingly invited by parties and governments of various European countries since 2010 to gain a differentiated view of the origins of Islam, historical developments, misunderstandings about Islam and manipulations of the teachings of Islam by certain groups in the course of history, as well as the ideological excesses in to give a lecture today. Political advisors are looking for ideas on how to deal with people in the West who commit crimes or incite hatred in the name of Islam. At the same time, he repeatedly warns against attempts by some circles in Europe to further stabilize this system through dialogues with representatives of the regime in Iran. In addition, he points out that Islam researchers in Iran are not allowed to work freely, but rather smuggle one-sided interpretations and representations of the politically bound ideology of Velayat-e-faghi into Europe if they are invited to their universities by European scientists.
