Shō Suzuki ( Japanese 鈴木 翔 , Suzuki Shō ; born April 20, 1990 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese ski jumper .

Career

Suzuki made its international debut in March 2007 in Yamagata, Japan . On the Zaō hill he jumped to a mixed 24th place. A year later he jumped in Sapporo at two FIS competitions in Sapporo on only mediocre places. Back in the FIS Cup, Suzuki achieved their first win in Harbin in January 2009 .

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso , Suzuki started with the team and reached sixth place in the team competition. In September 2009 he started in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup for the first time . In the second event in the Alpensia Jumping Park in Pyeongchang , he landed in 20th place in the points. However, he was still denied a permanent place in the B-squad.

In January 2011, Suzuki came back to Sapporo in the Continental Cup and jumped again into the points. In the following 2011 Winter Universiade in Turkey's Erzurum missed Suzuki to 12th place on the large hill on the normal hill in fourth place barely a medal. A few days later he won the gold medal in team jumping together with Shōtarō Hosoda and Yūmu Harada .

For the 2011/12 season, Suzuki finally moved to the B-squad and started in the Continental Cup from November 2011. At his first international competition outside of Asia in Engelberg , as 27th, he immediately jumped into the second round and won Continental Cup points again. After jumping in the top 15 for the first time in January 2012 in Sapporo, he was given a starting place for the ski jumping World Cup which will take place on the same hill five days later . As 30th of the qualification he got into the competition without any difficulties, but was eliminated as 46 in the first round.

In August 2012 he took part in the Summer Grand Prix in Courchevel and, as 12th, he was clearly placed in the top of the world in an A-class competition for the first time. In Hakuba he even won the qualification and finally achieved his best result to date in jumping with eighth place. After further unsuccessful starts in Klingenthal , Almaty and Hinzenbach , he finished the Summer Grand Prix in 40th place overall.

In January 2013, Suzuki was again used in the World Cup in Sapporo. He just missed the points in the second competition as 32nd. At the 2013 Summer Grand Prix , like a year before, he again achieved good placements. He finished 65th overall with 20 points.

Due to the high level of performance in the Japanese team, Suzuki did not get a permanent place in the A or B squad for the 2013/14 season. His first use was in January 2014 at the Continental Cup jumping competition in Sapporo. However, he was only able to win a Continental Cup point in one of the two competitions as 30th.
