Sha Na Na (also: Sha Na Na ) is a rock 'n' roll - band from New York that at times comedic style cover versions interpreted pieces of music from the 1950s. Sha-Na-Na released a total of over 25 music albums .

history

The band Sha-Na-Na originally formed in 1969 as an a cappella group at Columbia University in New York under the name The Kingsmen . There they performed a wide range of different styles of music until they decided, due to the popularity of the music of the 1950s, to only play classics of that time under the name Sha Na Na . The name comes from the song Get A Job (1957) by the Silhouettes .

Woodstock 1969

With her appearance at the Woodstock Festival , Sha Na Na became known to the general public and began to establish herself in the American rock 'n' roll landscape. Sha Na Na was the only interpreter of the Woodstock Festival without a record deal ; They played about 40 minutes for 300 US dollars on the last day of the festival just before the appearance of Jimi Hendrix .

Cinema and TV

The band had a television show in the following years , which was broadcast in 97 episodes. This show consisted essentially of her own music and skits with other celebrities and resulted in Sha Na Na becoming even more prominent in the US public.

In the film Grease , Sha Na Na had a guest appearance as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers and contributed several songs to the original soundtrack . The soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy and received eight platinum awards .

In the TV series Ein Colt for all cases , the band played in the episode "Falsches Gold" (season 5, episode 15). Unsuccessfully they try to convince a manager with different songs in hula, country and rock style. It wasn't until the end of the episode that the band called themselves Sha Na Na and celebrated great success with a cover of the song Da Doo Ron Ron . In the meantime, they help Colt Seavers to catch a refugee.
