Shadow King was an AOR- based hard rock band formed by former Foreigner singer Lou Gramm and guitarist Vivian Campbell . After the release of their debut album , the group performed once and then broke up.

background

Vivian Campbell, guitarist of the band Dio had acquired from 1984 to 1986 worldwide recognition and in 1987 and 1988 with Whitesnake the tour for the album in 1987 had denied, had in 1989 for the debut album of the River Dogs introduced, but left the group in early 1991 again. The lack of personal continuity due to a change of drummer, change of producer, change of label supervisor as well as changes at the highest record company decision-making level and the associated unrest reminded him too much of the fluctuation that had already prevailed at Whitesnake.

Lou Gramm was also known worldwide as the singer of the band Foreigner and had already recorded two solo albums ( Ready or Not and Long Hard Look ), both of which had reached the top 100 of the album charts in the USA . After Long Hard Look , Gramm had declared the Foreigner chapter in his life story over.

Shadow King was completed by bassist Bruce Turgon, who had already played with Gramm in the band Black Sheep before his engagement with Foreigner, and drummer Kevin Valentine, a well-known session musician.

The group recorded their debut album, Shadow King , for Atlantic Records under the direction of producer Keith Olsen at Goodnight LA Studios. It was released on October 1, 1991.

Despite plans for a tour , the band only made one appearance. This took place on December 13, 1991 at the Astoria Theater in London , with the band being supported by Rick Seratte (keyboards). Campbell had received the offer to succeed the late Steve Clark at Def Leppard, which he accepted.

Campbell, Gramm and Turgon recorded the title One Dream for the soundtrack to the film Highlander II - The Return without Valentine , but were named in the credits to the album as "Lou Gramm Band".
