Shadowchaser 2 is an American action film with science fiction elements from 1994. The film was directed by John Eyres , who was also responsible for the first part . It appeared on video in Germany in November 1994.

action

A US nuclear weapons base is located in Raikon. This is where the COBRA nuclear weapon , which can wipe out an entire country, was brought. It is to be destroyed on the orders of the President of the United States . On Christmas Eve, terrorists led by the android Romulus storm the complex. They pretend to be Iraqi terrorists and demand an alibi. In reality, all they care about is the nuclear warhead. After killing all of the inmates, only technician Frank Mead, co-director Laurie Webber, and their son Ricky remain at the facility. Frank Mead, an alcoholic, survives when a terrorist only hits his hip flask . He can also save Ricky. Sarah has meanwhile stolen the language chip that is responsible for access to the nuclear weapon and is hiding from the terrorists.

To back up their demands, the terrorists shot down a passenger plane. Frank Mead, Webber and Ricky try to escape through a disused rocket shaft, but are caught by Romulus' men. Romulus takes Ricky and the voice chip with him. The other two are supposed to be eliminated with a rocket launcher , but survive. In the meantime, the Air Force decides to launch an air strike. Romulus seems to have lost his mind: he kills the rest of the men on his team and initiates the detonation of the nuclear weapon. At the last minute, Mead and Webber can free Ricky and defeat the android. They manage to defuse the nuclear weapon ten seconds before the explosion. The air attack can no longer be stopped and so they have to flee with the help of a helicopter. Romulus reappears, but Mead manages to throw him into the bomb bay. The entire complex then blows up.

background

As with Shadowchaser, it was directed by John Eyres. Frank Zagarino took over the role of the cyborg from the first part again. The well-known TV actors Bryan Genesse and Beth Toussaint were hired as opponents .

The first VHS video from VPS was cut in several places. Only a laser disc version by Astro and the DVD version by Laser Paradise (available in a three-box with a predecessor and a successor) were uncut.

The film was unindexed in July 2020.

criticism

The B-movie is like its predecessor a poor imitation of the films Die Hard and Terminator . The Christmas setting is also reminiscent of Die Hard 2 .

“Logic is consistently eliminated in this turbulent B-Picture, which is great fun with a small budget and minimal demands. Compared to its predecessor, director John Eyres ("Octopus") puts a good deal of dynamism on top, which completely ignores the figure formation in favor of increased entertainment. The result is an amusing wooden played, passably tricked and hearty brutal action trash that is no less and does not want to be than a furious bastard version of the great classics. A stupid as well as amusing B-Böller that gives genre fans what they want. "
