Shahadi Wright-Joseph

Shahadi Wright-Joseph (born April 30, 2005 ) is an American actress , singer and dancer . She is best known for her role in the horror thriller We and as voice actress for young Nala in the original version of the animated film The Lion King .

Life

Wright-Joseph has been dancing since she was two. She auditioned once for a school play in third grade with Lupita Nyong'o's Oscar acceptance speech.

Her first leading role in theater came when she was cast as a young Nala in the musical The Lion King on Broadway when she was nine years old. Wright-Joseph was also an actress in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Musical School of Rock . She also appeared in the television movie Hairspray Live! in 2016 as Inez Stubbs.

She was a supporting actress in the critically acclaimed horror film We, directed by Jordan Peele . For this role, she was nominated for the Saturn Award for best young actress in 2019 . She also took on her role as the young Nala in the remake of the original film of the same name , released in 2019, of the original film The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau .
