Shake You Down is a 1986 song by Gregory Abbott , written and produced by him . It appeared on the album of the same name .
Background and story
Abbott came up with the idea of writing a song about how a man feels when he sees an attractive woman. The result was a text with the hook line "Shake You Down". First of all, a demo tape was created with a drum machine , lead vocals and some well-rehearsed chords . Abbott re-recorded the song in a recording studio with bassist T. M. Stevens , keyboardist Alan Panaker, guitarist Marlon Graves and drummer Dave Beal.
Abbott's uncle, Mike Abbott, promoted the song with employees of the Charles Koppelman Entertainment Company, which led to a contract with Columbia Records . Shake You Down was released worldwide on September 29, 1986; it became a number one hit in the United States . The Recording Industry Association of America awarded the hit platinum for one million radio hits.
Originally the follow- up single I Got the Feeling (It's Over) was supposed to be released first, but to promote the album more successfully, Shake You Down was released . Critics consider the hit "Wall Street Soul". The background vocals are from Freda Payne. A Roland TR-808 as well as a synthesizer and a rhythm guitar were used for the drums .
