Al-Jabal al-Gharbi ( Arabic الجبل الغربي; Italian Gebel Garbi ) is a municipality in northwest Libya . The capital is Gharyan .

It is located in the hinterland of the historic Tripolitania region . The name translates as "Western mountainous region" and refers to the mountains of Jabal Nafusa . It was created during the last administrative reform from the municipalities of Mizdah , Gharyan and the southern part of the municipality of Yafran , after it had already existed in the 1990s.
