Municipal area before 2007

In the course of the Libyan administrative reform in 2007, the neighboring municipality of Tarhuna wa-Msallata was incorporated. Until then, 328,292 people (as of 2003) lived in what was then the area of ​​al-Murgub, covering an area of ​​3,000 km².
