Az-Zawiya ( Arabic الزاوية, DMG az-Zāwiya , Italian Zauia ) is a municipality that is located in the north-west of Libya . The capital of az-Zawiya is the city of az-Zawiya .

In 2006, 290,993 people lived in the entire area of az-Zawiya on an area of 2,890 km². In the north the municipality borders on the Mediterranean Sea, on land it borders on the following municipalities:
- Municipality of Tripoli in the east
 - Al-Jifara Municipality in the southeast
 - Munizip al-Jabal al-Gharbi in the south
 - Munizip an-Nuqat al-Chams in the west
 
Administrative history
During the administrative reform in 2007, the eastern part of the dissolved Munizip Sabratha wa-Surman was assigned. Until then, az-Zawiya comprised only 197,177 people (as of 2003) on a total area of 1,520 km².
