The Shan State National Army ( SSNA ), also known as SSA Central , is an armed group in Myanmar that campaigns for the autonomy of Shan State . Parts of the SSNA are maintaining a ceasefire with the Burmese military government, the State Council for Peace and Development (SDCP), while others have been disarmed. A large part is engaged in armed combat led by the SSA-S, the Shan State Army-South .

history

The SSNA was created on July 7, 1995 after a rebellion in the MTA Mong Tai Army, see Muang Tai Army . The rebels under Colonel Kan Yod and Dae Wain claimed that the MTA leader, Khun Sa, was only concerned with the drug business and that he did not care about the suffering of the civilian population in the fight against the Myanmar military regime. About 8,000 fighters withdrew from the MTA headquarters in Ha Mong to Hsipaw . The MTA did not recover from this blow.

At the end of 1995 a ceasefire was signed between the SPDC (the State Council for Peace and Development) and the SSNA.

In 2005 the SPDC called for SSNA fighters to be disarmed. The SSNA are to withdraw from areas and leave control to the Burmese army. As a result, Col. Sai Yi lifted the 1995 ceasefire agreement. He and about 5000-6000 fighters joined the troops of the SSA-S Shan State Army-South of Col. Yawd Serk.
