The Shandong is a STOBAR - aircraft carriers of the Chinese Navy . The ship was started under the project name Type 001A and launched in 2017. It was named after Shandong Province and is the first aircraft carrier entirely built in China.
On December 17, 2019, the Shandong was put into service. It bears the hull number 17.
technology
The construction is based on the design of the Admiral Kuznetsov class . It was further developed and the water displacement increased slightly to around 50,000–70,000 t. The Shandong was built at the shipyard in Dalian ( ⊙ ), which had already converted the Varyag to Liaoning . The ship has a conventional drive with steam turbines and diesel generators. It is 315 meters long, 75 meters wide and is said to have a speed of up to 31 knots .
Compared to the Liaoning, the flight deck has been widened and the area of the superstructure has been reduced, which means more space is available for the aircraft.
Armament and equipment
24–32 Shenyang J-15 fighter planes and 12 helicopters are to be stationed on the carrier .
The carrier is said to have an advanced S-band AESA type 346 radar system .
