Shane Robert Bieber (born May 31, 1995 in Orange , California ) is an American baseball player for the Cleveland Indians in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the position of pitcher .

Early career

Bieber attended Laguna Hills High School in Laguna Hills , California. As a senior in 2013 he achieved 8 wins , with only 4 losses with an earned run average of 1.40. Upon graduation, he committed to playing at the University of California, Santa Barbara . In his junior year he had an ERA of 2.74 in 12 wins and 4 losses in 18 starts. He was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft .

Career

Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians selected Bieber with the 122nd pick in the 4th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. Bieber then signed with the Indians.

Minor league baseball

Bieber made his professional debut with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers , with whom he spent the entire season. There he pitched 24 innings and had an ERA of 0.38. He spent 2017 split between the Lake County Captains , Lynchburg Hillcats and Akron RubberDucks , where he combined 10-5 with an ERA of 2.86 in 28 starts.

He started 2018 with the RubberDucks and was promoted to the Triple-A Team Columbus Clippers during the season . There he scored a rain-shortened, seven inning no-hitter against the Gwinnett Stripers on May 25 . The Cleveland Indians bought Bieber's contract on May 31, 2018 and promoted him to their active list.

2018

Bieber made his Major League debut after beating the Minnesota Twins at Target Field that evening . He played for 5 2/3 innings, with eight hits , four runs . one walk and six strikeouts in an 8–9 loss. His first MLB season was 11-5 win-loss, with an ERA of 4.55 in 19 starts.

2019

Bieber also plays the 2019 season with the Indians. In 2019 he was called up as an All-Star for the MLB All-Star Game 2019 . There he pitched the 5th inning with 19 throws. He was then selected as the All Star Game MVP.
