Sharazan is a song by the Italian pop duo Al Bano & Romina Power , which was released as a single in 1981. The song, which is one of their best known, was their first international chart success and reached the top of the charts in Switzerland .

Origin and content

The song was written by Al Bano Carrisi and Romina Power with Ciro and Stefano Dammico and produced by Dario Farina together with Gian Piero Reverberi. Ciro and Stefano Dammico were singers and keyboardists of the Daniel Sentacruz Ensemble , Ciro Dammico is also the author of Soleado , also known in Germany as Michael Holm's version of tears don't lie . In the lyrics, Sharazan embodies a kind of dreamland and paradise that promises "always happiness". It is a slow pop ballad played with synthesizer strings with a concise chorus melody.

Publication and reception

The single was released in late 1981 by Libra and Baby Records (006-64 579). On the B-side is the song Prima notte d'amore . Sharazan came in at number two in the Italian charts in 1981. The song also appeared on numerous compilation albums . In the German-speaking countries, the single reached high chart positions, number seven in Germany and number one in Switzerland , also number 15 in the Netherlands and number 14 in the Flemish part of Belgium .

On January 4th, 1982 Al Bano & Romina Power Sharazan sang at disco on ZDF . On YouTube , the duo's appearance in the German WWF Club reached over 23.5 million views (as of 2019).

Cover versions

In the German-speaking countries, the cover version of the Dutch singer Marco Bakker became known, which reached number 65 in Germany and was in the charts for three weeks. The German text is by Michael Kunze . It appeared in December 1981. Bakker appeared with the song on December 7, 1981 in the ZDF hit parade , but could not place in the top three.
