Shih Kien

Shih Kien , also Shek Kin ( Chinese  石堅  /  石坚 , Pinyin Shí Jiān , Jyutping Sek 6 Gin 1 ; * January 1, 1913 as 石榮璋  /  石荣璋 , Shí Róngzhāng , Jyutping Sek 6 Wing 4 zoeng 1 ; in the village of Shigang near Panyu , now Guangzhou , China ; † June 4, 2009 in Hong Kong ) was a Chinese actor in martial arts films.

Life

Shih's career began in the 1940s; in the process he developed into one of the most prominent supporting actors in the Hong Kong film industry. He was one of the first stars of martial arts films alongside Walter Cho , Kwan Tak Hing and Yu So Chow and was trained in northern martial arts as well as in the acting arts of Peking opera . He mostly played the villains of the films, as early as the black and white films of the early 1960s through to Bruce Lee's antagonist in The Man with the Death Claw .

His role interpretation found its way into linguistic usage in Hong Kong, where performing bad deeds was named after him.

He played a late comic role alongside Jackie Chan in Masters of All Classes . His filmography includes over 120 films.
