career

In 1989 Osawa started producing music. He first founded the band Mondo Grosso (album of the same name in 1993). The album was as well received overseas as it was in Asia, leading to the release of several albums and 12 "EPs in the United States and Europe. The group disbanded in June 1995. Shinichi Osawa continued to use the name for his solo projects. Various Vocalists and musicians worked with him to create the songs for his album Closer , which was released in 1997.

After Closer, Osawa turned to production, creating a. a. UAs "Rhythm", Charas "Junior Sweet", and Monday Michirus "You Make Me". After joining Sony Music Associated Records, Osawa produced his best-selling album to date on his Sony-affiliated For Life Records label. The album was the first eponymous record of the R'n'B sensation Bird and sold over 800,000 copies.

Osawa followed in 2000 with his album MG4 , which he released again under the name Mondo Grosso and recorded with great Japanese musicians such as N'dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies) and Amel Larrieux (Groove Theory). With this he created a masterpiece of the present, which musically corresponds to the demands of jazz, funk and soul. The album featured the hit single Life , which went up and down the radio that summer. MG4 was released in a total of 25 countries. A gig with Jamiroquois as a result of a remix project and a track for the official 2002 Fifa album Fever Pitch continued his musical career.

He also released the smash hit Shinin ' featuring Kj by Dragon Ash , and helped newcomer Mika Nakashima with her single Love Addict into club jazz territory. His triumphant advance continued in 2004 when he released his fifth album, Next Wave, featuring BoA , Kj, Towa Tei , UA, and a host of other high profile artists. In 2005 Osawa composed a. a. the hypnotic techno music of the popular PSP game Lumines .

In 2006 Osawa changed his major label again, and turned to the label Avex Trax for his album The One . At the end of 2007 his latest album was finally released in collaboration with artists such as Au Revoir Simone , Princess Superstar and Ania from Freeform Five, on which a successful remake of Chemical Brothers ' Star Guitar (featuring 'Au Revoir Simone') can be found.

Aside from his own musical career, Shinichi Osawa has already worked with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett in Alejandro González Iñárritu 's cult film Babel , where he played the role of DJ in the club.

HMV Japan voted Osawa 95th of the “100 best Japanese pop artists”.

As a composer and producer, Osawa has rather melodious and calm tones, whereas as a DJ and remixer he mostly stays true to the bursting synthesizer club sound (apart from a few remixes such as that of Felix da Housecats Radio or Pogo by Digitalism, which were also popular with the general public Find).
