Shinya (real name Japanese 山田 真 矢 , Yamada Shin'ya , born January 13, 1970 in Hadano , Kanagawa , Japan ) is a Japanese drummer . He became known as the drummer in the rock band Luna Sea , but he also took part in a variety of other projects. Most recently, in addition to his position at Luna Sea, he was also the drummer in Gackts band Yellow Fried Chickenz .

Life

Shinya was influenced at an early age by his parents, who are players by profession , and learned both Nō and the play of the Japanese drum Taiko . From 1985 to 1988 he went to Kanagawa Ritu Isehara High School and probably hesitated between buying a motorcycle or a drum kit, opting for the latter. In the beginning he taught himself to play as much as possible.

Shinya started his rock career together with his later bandmate Sugizo as a member of the band Pinoccio .

Luna Sea

In 1989 guitarist Inoran and bassist J founded the band Lunacy , which shortly afterwards became Luna Sea, with Shinya on drums, Sugizo on guitar and Ryuichi as singer. The then unconventional band with a visual kei look had difficulties getting a record deal. It was only with the help of X Japan drummer Yoshiki that they made the leap into the music world and established themselves as a successful rock band. In 1997 the band took a break so that all members devoted themselves to their solo careers. In 1998 the band returned visibly more mature and presented a more poppy style than before. Except for Sugizo, the band members had largely abandoned their visual look. In 2000 the band released their last album for the time being, which marked the beginning of the band break until 2007.

After being announced after a seven-year hiatus on the day of a lunar eclipse, the band gave a sold-out concert in the Tokyo Dome on December 24, 2007 in front of 55,000 visitors. They also headlined X Japan at the Hide Memorial Summit on May 5th, 2008. The resumption of the band activities took place in the form of several concerts outside of Asia. Her world tour in 2010 brought her to Bochum, her only concert in Europe.

Solo career

Shinya played the drums for the song Back Line Best on J's first solo album Pyromania in 1997. In the same year Shinya also tried his own songs, for which he took over the vocal part and the drums. His first single, Rakkasuru Taiyou , was released on September 26th. His album No Sticks , released in December 1997, is his only solo album to date.

After Luna Sea broke up in 2000, Shinya was a support drummer for various artists, including a. Miyavi , Nanase Aikawa , Maki Oguro and Kōji Kikkawa .

In 2005 he started the Potbelly project with a young singer named Milky. The first single was released on August 22, 2005.

In 2006 he played his instrument for fake? (a project by Luna Sea guitarist Inoran and Ken Lloyd from Oblivion Dust ) for their album Songs From Beelzebub . In the same year he also supported Creature Creature live, a project by Morrie, frontman of the band Dead End .

In 2008 and 2009 Shinya supported Toshi (singer of X Japan) in his project Toshi with T-Earth .

When Toshi made a tour through Japan in response to the earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011 , during which he did without electric instruments and only played acoustically due to the shortage of electricity, Shinya supported him, as did Heath ( X Japan ) and the orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa . All proceeds were donated to the Japanese Red Cross . In the same year Shinya became a member of the band Yellow Fried Chickenz , which was initiated by Gackt.

Personal

Shinya married Aya Ishiguro, a former member of the girl group Morning Musume , in May 2000 . Their first daughter, Rimu, was born in November of the same year, and the couple now have three children.
